5 Habits of Destructive HR Leaders

SESSION CONTENT SUMMARY: When you can quickly recognize the traits of ineffective and even destructive leadership, you can position yourself to adapt your own behaviors for trans-formative effective leadership.  That’s the goal of this workshop on the 5 habits of destructive HR leaders.  See which of the 5 habits are immediately recognizable and how you work through them to become the kind of business leader who can truly drive real results.



Michael was named senior director, HR strategic initiatives within UVA’s office of the VP & Chief Human Resources Officer in June 2017.  Since 2015 Michael has served in various roles at UVA, including with the Ufirst HR transformation project.  Before joining the University in 2012, Michael worked in the private sector for various software and technology companies in Charlottesville. A graduate of both UVA and its law school, Michael is a member of the bars in New York and the District of Columbia and is a certified HR professional by both the Society for HR Management (SHRM) and the HR Certification Institute. He is past president of the Charlottesville chapter of SHRM, is president-elect of the Virginia SHRM state council, and is treasurer of the Virginia chapter of the College and University Professional Association for HR (CUPA-HR).

Bryan is Assistant Vice President for UVA Human Resources. His 20 years in HR includes experience in the corporate sector and higher education. Bryan has a Bachelor’s degree in Drama from St. Mary’s College of Maryland, a Master’s degree in Acting from UVA, and a Master’s degree in Management from the University of Florida.  He has been a featured speaker at state, regional, and national conferences and has a special passion for lifelong learning and professional development./
