Airtight Writing: Protect Your Workplace and Your Employees with Better Job Descriptions

 

A well-written job description is important long after you take down the employment ad. Job descriptions provide employees, managers, and HR professionals with a realistic picture of job duties  and performance guidelines. This session will demonstrate the importance of writing clear and accurate job descriptions, especially when a request for accommodation is made. The presenters will also briefly discuss the current challenge of interviewing a candidate using a virtual platform and how it differs from the traditional in-person meeting.

King Tower, Mike Gardner, and Lilias Gordon Of Counsel, Principal, and Associate at Woods Rogers

King F. Tower;  Labor and Employment Practice Team 

King Tower assists employers with employment law litigation, labor-management relations, and also offers counsel to business on employment related matters. His experience as a labor and employment attorney includes defending claims under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Title VII. He has extensive experience providing strategic guidance to clients on conducting internal audits of corporate compliance, employment policies, and other critical decisions.

Michael P. Gardner;  Labor and Employment Practice Team 

Mike Gardner has represented clients large and small, public and private in state and federal courts in the Mid-Atlantic and beyond. Mike has counseled employers on handling all aspects of employment claims, from internal management, proceedings with state and federal agencies such as the EEOC or DOL, and through litigation, trial and appeal. While litigation is sometimes unavoidable, Mike emphasizes a proactive and preventative approach to employment issues in an effort to minimize the costs and disruptions litigation can impose on a business.

Lilias M. Gordon;  Labor and Employment Practice Team 

Lilias’s practice focuses on litigation, particularly in areas of labor and employment. She has experience researching and drafting policies to help businesses comply with employment laws, including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Lilias was a Woods Rogers summer associate in 2018 and joined the firm full-time in the fall of 2019.
